Waterloo Public Library - Holds

Holds

If an item isn’t available on your library visit, you may wish to place a hold on it. A hold is a reservation for a particular item in the Library's collection. We will notify you when the item is ready.

Place holds through the Library Catalogue or by telephone:

When you place your hold, you must select either WPL Main Library or WPL McCormick Branch as your pickup location. You will be contacted when the item is ready. Placing a hold is a free service.

You do require a numeric PIN (Personal Identification Number) to place holds. See box to right for details.

Freeze Holds

Going on Vacation? Don’t forget to freeze your holds! The Freeze Hold feature delays receipt of an item and let others go ahead of you while still maintaining your place in the waiting list. When you return from vacation, simply un-freeze the hold. It’s easy!

If you are #1 in the holds queue or there is NO tick box beside an item the system will not freeze your hold. For assistance with this please phone 519-886-1310 ext. 138.

How Do Holds Work?

When you place a hold, the item will be flagged in our computer system. Shortly after the item returns, you will be contacted by telephone or by e-mail. At that point you are given three business days in which to visit the library and pick up the item being held.

Items which have a hold placed against them may not be renewed by the current borrower.
